What Should I Do with High Creatinine and BUN Level after Kidney Transplant

I’m a transplant patient for 2 years now. I was diagnosed with chronic rejection...my BUN and creatinine is going high, right now is 4.5(creatinine)76(BUN). What should I do?

The normal Serum Creatinine Level is 0.5 to 1.1 mg/dl for adult female and 0.6 to 1.2 mg/dl for adult male. And the normal levels of BUN should range from 6 to 20 mg/dl. From the standard, we can see that Creatine 4.5 and BUN 76 is much higher than normal.

Creatinine is a breakdown product of creatine in muscle or most protein products. It is usually produced at a fairly constant rate by the body. While urea is also a waste product made when protein is broken down in your body. Both of them are passed out of body in the urine. When kidneys go wrong, they can not be filtered in time. Therefore, Creatinine and BUN levels are primarily used to monitor kidney function.

However, some other factors may cause creatinine and BUN levels raise temporarily, such as high-protein diets, high blood pressure, dehydration etc. If your BUN and creatinine levels are high for a long time, it may indicate that your transplanted kidney loses its function gradually. The reason why Kidney Disease relapses after Kidney Transplant is because that your immune system is still in disorder.

To treat kidney disease, just eliminating focus is not enough, you have to regulate your immune system or even if you have transplanted a healthy kidney, it will be attacked by the immune system. You can choose the therapy which does not only improve kidney function, but also regulate your immune system. Once kidney regains its function, High Creatinine Level and High BUN Level will decrease. Besides medication, you had better restrict your diet and do regular exercises.
