Coke-colored Urine and Belly Pain in ADPKD

I got ADPKD from my father. Recently, in a morning, I felt awful belly pain. When I went to restroom, I noticed that the toilet was full of coke-colored urine. I feel very scared.

ADPKD is featured with numerous cysts usually growing in both of kidneys. When the cysts are small, the disease can develop asymptomatically. With age, the cysts will increase constantly both in size and number. As a result, the cysts will compress the adjacent kidney tissues and other organs, thus resulting in belly pain, back pain, flank pain etc. Also, the stretching of kidney capsule is attributable to the pain. Usually, the pain is not too severe.

However, as the cysts increase in both size and number, the pressure in abdominal cavity will increase gradually. Under high pressure, the cysts may rupture at any time. If the cysts rupture, it can cause awful belly pain and blood in urine. If there are a lot of red blood cells in urine, it will cause coke-colored urine. Generally, the bleeding will disappear after several days. However, if it causes infection, the symptom can last for a longer time and lead a worse outcome.

Another cause of coke-colored urine and belly pain in ADPKD is cyst infection or kidney infection. Large cysts may obstruct urinary tract system to cause urinary retention. The bacteria in urine are very likely to cause urinary tract infection. If the infection spreads upward, it may cause cyst and even kidney infection. If left uncontrolled, it may lead to serious complications like Septicemia and peritonitis.

Now you should go to see a doctor to find the causes of your coke-colored urine and belly pain. Only if you can find causes, will you get a right treatment.
