Kidneys have concentrating ability so we usually urinate certain times each night. Frequent urination at night is a major sign of kidney disease. If you go to toilet frequently at night for no clear reason, it may indicate certain kind of kidney disease or even renal failure. However, not all cases of frequent urination at night is due to kidney disease.
Frequent urination at night is an early sign of kidney disease. It results from decreased renal function. In right condition, renal tubule can concentrate urine and keep certain urine output and urination frequency. When its concentration ability decreases, frequent urination will occur.
Chronic heart failure
Chronic heart failure can weaken the cardiac contractility. In the day, people keep active so kidneys can not get ample blood perfusion. This can cause the urine output at daytime to decline. At night, if people lie down on back, the cardiac load will be lessened. So the cardiac output will increase and blood perfusion to kidneys will increase. As kidneys are responsible for filtering excessive fluids from blood, increased blood perfusion to kidneys can cause more urine output.
Some kinds of endocrine diseases are also attributable factors for increased urination at night. Diabetes and insipidus are two typical endocrine diseases in causing increased urination at night. This part of patients not only have increased urination at night, but also in the daytime.
