Several factors that can low blood sugar in people with diabetes, including taking too much insulin or other diabetes complications, skipping a meal, or exercising harder than usual.

Causes of low blood sugar in type 2 diabetes after dialysis

Diabetes is the most common cause of end stage renal disease (ESRD), which is the point at which the kidneys are no longer able to filter and clean the blood as needed for daily life.In that case, regular dialysis treatments are needed to clean blood.

Type 2 diabetes is caused by insulin resistance,in which the body cells can not make use of insulin efficiently to process glucose.Insulin resistance is also a problem for people with kidney disease.

Dialysis can help improve insulin resistance to make the body cells utilize insulin better. Therefore, the patients with type 2 diabetes should have smaller doses of insulin after dialysis treatments than they do on days when they do not have dialysis. If they still have high dose of insulin as before, they are very prone to develop low blood sugar. Therefore, the patients are recommended to monitor their blood sugar level regularly during dialysis treatment.

Before changing your insulin dose, you should consult your doctor. He/she can decide the dose of insulin you need based on your individualized condition.
