Foods that People with ESRD should not EatFor individuals with End Stage Renal Disease, their kidneys have been severely damaged, so patients are suggested to control their daily diet. Here, we'd like to talk about foods that ESRD patients should not eat.

Firstly, eat less foods containing a large quantity of Na.

Excess intake of Na can easily lead to the increase of blood pressure, dropsy, ascites, pleural effusion and cardiac failure. Therefore, patients should take less foods such as salt, soy, gourmet powder, tomato catchup, barbeque sauce, vinegar and do on.

Secondly, avoid foods that are high in phosphorus content.

The major function of phosphorus is to strengthen skeleton. ESRD patients' kidneys fail to work normally. This may induce problems like redundant phosphorus depositing in blood, thus leading to pruritus (itching skin) and bone lesions. High phosphorus foods such as milchigs, soda water, coke, ferment, organs, dry beans, whole grain, anchovies should be avoided.

Last but not the least, do not take foods rich in potassium.

In case of ESRD, the damaged kidneys cannot remove excessive potassium effectively. As a result, problems like abnormal cardiac conduction and contraction, even death can be caused. Hence, patients are recommended to do not eat high potassium content foods such as mushroom, leaf mustard, cauliflower, spinach, water spinach, tomato, carrot, pumpkin, guava, loquat, peach, mandarin orange, hard persimmon, orange, raw green salad, etc. Other foods should also be limited including coffee, strong tea, chicken powder, cow powder, ginseng extractum, soup stocs, soy, salt and do on.
