Q:I was diagnosed with exophytic cyst in the right kidney.Should I concern about it? May it become cancer? My grandmother died from kidney cancer?
A:Whether it should be a concern depends on the size and characteristics of the cyst. You are suggested to do a CT scan and it is actually more detailed. They can measure it if there is any concern.
An exophytic renal cyst is an inside-out cyst formation in the kidney, when there is a build up of fluid as an aftereffect of its presence. It is divided into simple and complex cyst. in general case, the cyst is benign and simple and does not cause any problem.
However,if your exophytic renal cyst in right kidney is complex, you should take it seriously. A complex kidney cyst may have irregularities within the walls of the cyst and/or within the contents of the cyst.Enhancement on CT scan, calcification, thick wall and septation can bee seen in complex renal cyst.Complex renal cyst has a risk ranging from 13% to 90% for being kidney cancer. The more irregularities a complex renal cyst has and the larger it grows, the more potential is has or could become a kidney cancer. If the CT scan does not mention any of these findings, you do not concern it so much.On the contrary, you should seek aggressive treatment ASAP.
Another problem you should concern is the enlargement of exophytic renal cyst in right kidney. If the cyst keeps enlarging ceaselessly, it may compress the adjacent kidney tissues, thus affecting the normal renal function. Stopping the cyst from enlarging not only can reduce the risk of kidney damage, but also can reduce the possibility of becoming cancer. Chinese herbal medicines like Citrus, laminaria, fritillaria, pangolin scale etc can be used to treat exophytic renal cyst in right kidney and it can improve the long-term prognosis. However, some herbs may have renal toxicity so you should never use them by yourself. You can consult us to get more professional advices.
