How Does Renal Failure Cause InsomniaMany patients with renal failure are afflicted with insomnia. Poor sleep can make people tired and irritated all day long. How does renal failure cause insomnia?

The early stages of chronic kidney disease can cause insomnia. As the kidneys are not functioning well and they will not able to process the toxins in body adequately, the toxins will invade the organs and bloodstream, thus leading to insomnia.

As Kidney Disease advances, high blood pressure will occur as an underlying result of the failure of the kidneys to function properly. High blood pressure can put a stress on the heart, which, in turn, causes chemicals in the brain to inhibit sleep. It is also an cause of insomnia in renal failure.

As renal failure progresses, the heart and other organs become stressed and struggle to perform properly as they try to make up for the kidney’s failure to function correctly. Insomnia and other sleep disorders can put additional stress on the heart and other organs, thus leading to additional distress to the body and exacerbating the kidney problem.

Insomnia is also can be seen among the patients on dialysis. It occurs due to leg cramps and leg pain at night. Additionally, the patients can have restless leg syndrome. It is a disorder in which the patients feel a need to kick or jerk their legs. This is disruptive to their sleep. This is attributed to biochemical and metabolic changes brought on by the dialysis.

The patients with renal failure should attach more importance to chronic insomnia as more than just an irritating disorder. It may be a clue to other more serious condition.
