Acute renal failure

Sudden-onset acute renal failure can be caused by use of ibuprofen if the patient suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease or lupus, or consumes a lot of alcohol. This is because Ibuprofen can restrict blood flow to the blood-filtering components of the kidneys. Dehydrated patients face a bigger risk of kidney damage.

About 6 or more pills per day for 3 years increase the risk some for this problem. Analgesic nephropathy can result in permanent kidney damage. If this disorder occurs, the patients will experience decreased urine output, increased urinary frequency, swelling etc.

Treatment with ibuprofen can significantly decrease the rate which an infant’s kidneys filter blood. So if the infants are taking the medicine, they should be monitored closely to observe if kidney damage occurs.

As Ibuprofen can cause significant kidney damage, you should be cautious when taking the drug.

*Ibuprofen is usually given to relieve pain. If you are only in mild pain, it is always good to think about other remedies, like massage or rest, and only give medications if they do not work.

*Dehydration can increase the risk of developing kidney damage among people who are taking Ibuprofen. You should never take the medicine if you are not drinking well.

*You should follow the doctor’s direction strictly. Never exceed the recommended dose of medications without the doctor’s supervision.

If you are suffering kidney damage due to irrational use of Ibuprofen, you should take timely treatment to stop the disease progression and preserve your kidney function.
