Early Symptoms of Nephritis in Women

Nephritis in women is not a singular disease but the progressive stage of any primary or secondary glomerulonephritis to end stage renal disease (ESRD). Knowing about the early symptoms of Nephritis in women can help us detect the disease early and take effective treatment as soon as possible.

Infections. The acute onset of Chronic Nephritis and onset of Acute Nephritis are often associated with infections of upper respiratory and urinary tract, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, etc. Hence, once detect the above infections, it is necessary to have a urine routine test.

Swelling or edema. Though there are no specific symptoms, people with early stage of Nephritis may experience fatigue, weakness, lower back pain, swelling (of the eyelids, face, and ankles, etc), foamy urine, and abnormal color of urine.

High blood pressure. Approximately 1/3 people with Nephritis have elevated blood pressure manifested with headache, memory loss, and poor sleep.

Blood in the urine or hematuria. In normal condition, there is no visible blood in the urine and no red blood cells exist in the urine under the microscope. Gross hematuria indicates that there are excess RBCs in the blood. However, the red-colored urine is not equivalent to hematuira and Nephritis. Besides, female patients should keep away from menstrual period to do a urine test.

Changes of urine output. The early stage of renal insufficiency may only manifest as frequent urination at night and increased urine output. People who urinate more than twice should go to see a doctor.

Anemia. Moderate or severe chronic renal insufficiency often combines with anemia, leading to the discomforts such as fatigue, dizziness, pale, etc.
