Membranous Lupus Glomerulonephritis Treatment

2013-05-27 15:26

Lupus nephritis is inflammation of the kidney that is secondary to systemic lupus erythematous (SLE).It is divied into six stages. Membranous lupus glomerulonephritis is stage V of lupus nephritis. What is the treatment for membranous lupus glomerulonephritis?

SLE is an autoimmune disease. With lupus, the body’s immune system fails to protect the body normally, but targets its own body tissues.Lupus Nephritis happens when lupus involves the kidneys.

About 1/3 to 1/2 of lupus patients develop lupus nephritis within the first six months to three years of their lupus diagnosis.Membranous lupus glomerulonephritis is characterized by diffuse thickening of the glomerular capillary wall, with diffuse membrane thickening, and subepithelial deposits. In this stage, the patients may develop Nephrotic Syndrome with heavy protein in urine. Nephrotic syndrome is a major accelerator of renal function deterioration in membranous lupus glomerulonephritis. If not controlled, lupus nephritis can lead to Kidney Failure.

Treatment for membranous lupus glomerulonephritis

General treatments for membranous lupus glomerulonephritis

*Corticosteroids.Corticosteroids are strong anti-inflammatory drugs that can decrease inflammation.Usually, after several months’ treatment, the patients will have an improvement if they respond to the drugs.

*Immunosuppressive drugs. These drugs work by suppressing immune system activity that damages the kidneys.

*Medications to prevent blood clots or lower blood pressure or both.

Even treatment is adopted, loss of kidney function sometimes progresses. If both of kidneys fail to work, Dialysis or kidney transplant will be used.

Alternative treatment for membranous lupus glomerulonephritis

Lupus nephritis is an autoimmune disorder, in which the immune system attacks the kidney tissues by mistake. Therefore, one of important treatment goals is to correct immune dysfunction and improve renal function.

Additionally,as mentioned above, the structure of small capillary has been changed. To stop loss of renal function and improve renal function, another important goal of treatment is to reverse kidney damage and improve renal function. If so,the patients with membranous lupus glomerulonephritis will avoid developing kidney failure. To achieve this treatment goal, Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy can help.
