Healthy Diet for People with Type 1 DiabetesThe patients with typ 1 diabetes are usually recommended to eat a healthy and balanced diet. A proper diet can help manage blood sugar level better and reduce the incidence of other complications.

In type 1 diabetes, as the body no longer produces insulin, the patients have to inject it to control blood sugar level. To keep the blood sugar level close to normal after eating, the patients should avoid foods which can cause large fluctuation of blood sugar level.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrate foods have the greatest effect on blood sugar level and it is the starchy foods like bread, cereals, potatoes, rice etc. Carbohydrate foods can be broken down into glucose in body and then absorbed from the intestine into the bloodstream. Therefore, it can cause obvious rise in blood sugar level.

Sugar

It is believed that the patients with type 1 diabetes should avoid eating sugar because it can elevate blood sugar level. In fact, it is not always true. Table sugar does not have so much impact on blood sugar as people image.

Proteins
